Urology is the medical specialty that deals with the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the male and female renal-urinary system (kidneys, ureters, bladder, urethra) as well as the male reproductive system (testes, epididym, vascular, seminal vesicles, prostate and penis).
The medical approach to urological disorders (such as urinary tract infections) is combined with the surgical correction of congenital anomalies or cancers in the genito-urinary sphere. Investigations related to urinary incontinence, sexual dysfunction, male infertility, and pediatric urology are made by the urologist.
Urology is closely related to other medical fields: andrology, nephrology, gynecology and oncology.
