Dermatology is a branch of medicine that studies the biggest organ of the human body, the skin. This medical specialty offers diagnoses for the skin diseases, monitors the diagnosis of contagious and non-contagious skin medical conditions as well as medical care for patients suffering from dermatitis. Dermatology includes the study of drug therapy, as well as the surgical aspects of the specialty.

A dermatologist takes care of the skin disease, in the broadest sense, as well as the aesthetic problems of the skin, scalp, hair and nails.

Venereology is a branch of medicine that is concerned with the study and treatment of sexually transmitted diseases. Along with the venereology, dermatology also covers the venereology diseases domain that includes medical conditions that are sexually transmitted.

There exist more than 2000 known skin diseases that is why the diagnosis can not be given very fastly. It is absolutely necessary that the patient to consult the dermatologist several times in order to effect a complete set of tests and laboratory medical analyzes. After the consultation and having the paraclinical investigations’ results, the dermatologist is able to diagnose and correctly treat the dermatological medical conditions.

The Department of Dermatology at the AIS Medical Center provides the following specialized assessments:

1.    Clinical examination: skin, mucous, teguments.·

  • Diseases of the skin and nails caused by pathogenic fungal agents (microsporia, etc.) ·
  • Viral skin diseases (herpes, pink lichen, papilloma, etc.);·
  • Infectious skin lesions – impetigo;·
  • Neurodermatitis, eczema and dermatitis of allergic origin;·
  • Inflammatory and somatic diseases of sudoriparous (sweat) glands and sebaceous glands;·
  • Parasitic skin disorders;·
  • Hives;·
  • Rash and injuries caused by diseases of the internal organs (gastrointestinal disorders, parasitic lesions of the internal organs such as trichinosis, onchocerciasis, tungiasis, schistosomiasis), toxic effects of drugs, various skin lesions caused by HIV infection;·
  • Acne, skin problems of the teens;·
  • Exudative diathesis;·
  • Psoriazis.

2.    Formulating a diagnosis plan and choosing the appropriate therapy for the present condition.

3.    Paraclinical examination:

  • blood analysis (biochemistry, hematology, immunology, electrolytes, etc.);
  • urine analysis;
  • imaging: radiography, MRI, CT, soft tissue ultrasound, dermatoscopy;

4.    The basic principles of therapy will be:·

  • Treating the primary illness, if it has been identified;·
  • Careful observation of signs and symptoms, respectively their treatment;·
  • Supportive treatment;·
  • Using anti-inflammatory drugs when needed;·
  • Antibiotic therapy when required;·
  • Electrocauterization;·
  • Small surgery interventions (at the skin level).

5.    Patients are referred to other medical specialties for health assessment.
